The Bigger Loft Boat near Amsterdam

When it comes to fishing, you are assured that the Loosdrechtse Plassen are known for their great fishing stocks. Carp and pike are the main target species, both growing exceptionally large thanks to the large surface, healthy water and the abundance of food to be found. 

The waters were created by hand, during peat extraction around the Middle Ages. The depth of the lake is in general around 2 meters, the bottom consists of peat and is quite cloudy. There are both large common carp and mirror carp up to 40 lb+ to be caught, and pike over 110 cm (let's say 20 lb+) are no exception. 

Carp fishing from your houseboat

If you are planning a self organized carp holiday with us, you can best choose 18 - 22 mm boilies as bait. When choosing the right spot you should not be surprised to get a run of a massive fish on the first day. To fish on these lakes you need the National fishing license called 'Vispas'. Note that night fishing is only allowed on lakes 3, 4 and 5 and you need a special license for this. 

The great thing is that you can decide yourself where you want to fish and anchor on the spot you have chosen. The deck is large enough to store two rod pods with two rods each. Now it's time to create a feeding spot, drop your lines and get your landing net ready. Always use an unhooking mat to protect the fish and keep the boat nice and clean. 

Best fishing periods for carp are spring, summer and autumn.

Pike fishing from your houseboat

Technically you can cast a lure while driving the houseboat, but you are not as flexible as when driving a smaller fishing boat. And more importantly, the houseboat is not allowed into the protected area on the South-West of the the lakes where lots of pike gather from autumn till early summer. However, we can provide a small fishing boat with an electric engine that allows you to discover these wonderful parts of the lake.

To catch pike, you can use crank baits and jerk baits of 15 - 25 cm for casting and trolling. If the water is murky, rattle lures can be super effective. And always take some large softbaits and swimbaits of 20 - 30 cm. Don't be afraid to use large baits, because you are targeting large pike here!

You can fish for pike all year round, except during the closed season from April 1 till the last Saturday in May. 

Fishing for bream and roach

The Loosdrechtse Plassen are a typical destination for larger fish, but of course there are bream and roach too. If you want you can fish for them, but please keep the houseboat clean at all times. So no maggots, ground bait and keepnets are allowed aboard. Thanks for understanding!
